Eruption Style of the Mauna Loa
Mauna Loa is a shield volcano, which means it has generally very fluid lava . The volcano has been erupting for at least 100,000 years. It has produced lesser amounts of pyroclastic deposits. The volcano is constructed of a rock type known as tholeiitic basalt. Mauna Loa shares the Hawaiian hot spot with its smaller active volcanoes such as the Kilauea and Loihi seamount. The volcano lava is not that explosive but has had much history of deadly eruptions, the volcano is still erupting even today.
